Frequently Asked Questions
What is CP in Pokémon GO?
CP stands for Combat Power. It is a single number that summarizes your Pokémon's overall battle strength, calculated from its base stats (Attack, Defense, Stamina), individual values (IVs), and level (represented by the CP Multiplier).
What are IVs and why do they matter?
IVs (Individual Values) are hidden bonus stats ranging from 0 to 15 for Attack, Defense, and Stamina. A Pokémon with all 15s (called a "Hundo" or 100% IV) will have the highest possible CP at any given level — making them the best candidates for powering up.
What is a good IV percentage?
Any Pokémon at 80% IV or above is generally worth powering up. 90%+ is excellent, and 100% (a perfect hundo) is the gold standard for competitive play and prestige.
What is the max level in Pokémon GO?
Trainers can power Pokémon up to Level 50. However, you can only power a Pokémon above your own trainer level by using XL Candy. The effective cap for most players is their trainer level + 1.5.
How does this calculator work?
This calculator uses the official Pokémon GO CP formula: CP = (BaseAtk + AtkIV) × √(BaseDef + DefIV) × √(BaseSta + StaIV) × CPM² / 10, where CPM is the CP Multiplier for your Pokémon's level. Base stats come from Niantic's game data.
